Matisse’s Swimming Pool

Henri Matisse wanted to see divers.  One summer day in 1952 he and his assistant went to their favorite pool in Cannes.  The result of his sketches from that day transformed his dining room in Hotel Regina in Nice with blue divers.  “The result was Matisse’s first and only self-contained, site-specific cut-out”.  Now Matisse’s beautiful swimmers and divers can be seen at the MoMA in New York City.  It was acquired by the museum in 1975 and conserved in 2008.
