The decision to spend our summer vacation in Bali, Indonesia was an easy one. Ideal weather, kid friendly, beaches, sunshine, a new culture and foods to experience and learn from. We knew we wanted to explore various parts of the island, so we decided to go to four different areas every few days.
We began in the jungle tree tops of Ubud. We stayed in the Four Seasons in the Sayan Valley right at the banks of the Sayan river. Hearing the gushing waters all day was so therapeutic and particularly while lazing by the pool as it was perched just above the river too. The days here were spent doing mostly cultural activities- biking through rice fields, batik printing, watching Indonesian dance, visiting tea houses, and rafting as well. Though a more secluded location- it was definitely my favorite one.
Our second stop was Canggu which is far more bustling, busy, and modernized. Here we stayed at the Como Hotel which was a little surfers paradise. With the beautiful black lava sand shoreline right at your feet, here we spent most of our time learning to surf. The waves were immensely fun for the kids and there are loads of people swimming, walking, exercising, and with their dogs all over the beaches. Here we also were spoiled for choice on incredible restaurants for dinners. Some we tried and loved were Yuki, Santanera, Shelter, Lulu, and Numero Quattro. There are also loads and loads of excellent brunch spots and pilates and yoga spaces to spend your hours while not surfing. The neighborhood was less clean than I had expected and also very busy when walking the streets, though the pockets of wonderful were truly memorable.
Next we drove South to Nusa Dua. Here we stayed at the St.Regis resort. The beaches were wonderfully wide, sandy, and the hotel was really great for the kids. For me though, I am not a huge resort lover as I get a bit stir crazy. I like a nearby town, which Nusa Dua doesn’t really have.
Lastly, we went to Uluwatu. Here I absolutely loved the vibe. It was another surfers dream with gorgeous cliffsides, clean wide beaches with large waves, and a really fun and happening town. We stayed at Jumeriah which has the perfect private access to a wonderful beachside. We had great meals out and the most beautiful sun sets that look as though the sun sizzles down into the sea at your feet. Another of my favorite spots in Bali.
And as I wrap this up- I wanted to make a statement about the Indonesian people. Without a doubt, their hospitality and kindness was the absolute greatest joy of this trip. The most wonderful and welcoming people to my family, my children, and I am so grateful for that.
There you have our trip in a nutshell. I hope to bring you more travel inspirations and exciting adventures all around the World. Stay tuned!
