Kitsch Christmas

Both Nur and I come from families that relish in the Christmas and Holiday festivities. From gorgeously decorated fresh Christmas trees, that were not the norm in Kuwait in the 80’s, to special gift wrapping and to even one year both showing up dressed as Santa himself. So even though the Holidays, as were decorated by our mothers, were traditional and elegant; there was always a silly and goofy side that Nur and I adored.

Luckily for us, the style of kitsch for Christmas has always been trendy. When I read a bit about the history, it turns out that the idea of novelty ornaments came from Germany to the US. We wanted to bring that fun quirky ornament style closer to home and that’s when we came about by styling some. From our most loved Kuwaiti dish, Machboos, to the camels of the deserts, and iconic coffee pots- we plucked out the imagery that resonates deep in our hearts.

Naturally, they are hand embroidered and beaded by incredible artisans in Jaipur for a sparkly and special finish. In a means to bridge our culture with the festivities we were so happy to celebrate- our selection of kitsch and novelty ornaments have come to fruition.
