I came across a wonderful article in Vogue India about the Anghraka, What was once considered a classic shape is now a regularly seen contemporary shape. When Nur and I discussed introducing this shape to our collections- it’s because for us, it radiates grace and tradition.
From the article, I came to know, that the word Anghraka comes from the Sanskrit word Angrakshak meaning “the protector of skin”. The most notable characteristic of the garment is the yoke. The elegant way in which it crosses over and hugs the torso and, in our case, how the slight slit in the fabric allows for a peek of the delicate skin below. As for historically, the Vogue article claims, “When rounded, it is likely to be Rajput, and when the cut plunges till the waist, its considered a Maratha style.”
The article, which was truly a wonderful read, is linked below. I hope you take the time to read it and enjoy it as much as I did.
Article: How the angrakha went from courtly classic to contemporary staple
When we launched it for noon collection 2025, we chose a frothy fabric for the fullness of the skirt and we subtly studded the piece with metallic notes for even more luxury. The gentle ties on the side of the garment allows for a perfect fit across the bust. I wore this piece at an event in Kuwait, and truly felt like a Queen. We even had an extremely close friend who wore this same beautiful garment to her wedding. Nothing could have honored us more.
Our Anghraka dress is available online on our website now.
