Inspired by the use of Ablaq in Islamic architecture, Nur and I knew for the latest collection of noon, there would be a focus on stripes. From the Ottoman empire to present day Syria, we see the high contrast use of stripes in their Mosques, Palaces, and their garments- both for men and women. We love the striking look, but we knew we wanted to soften it a bit with less high contrast and more complimentary color ways.
We first began with the green and blue tones of the Sultan Stripe coat. A regal piece with dramatic over lapping side panels to drape elegantly over voluminous under-pieces or flare out when placed over the shoulders. Nur decided to line it with a classic raw silk in a harmonious celery green.
We next worked on the pumpkin tone matched with the sweet vanilla stripe. We wanted a piece in the collection with warmth that would pair back easily to hues of whites and creams.
Once the stripes were all designed, we allocated the artisans of Shaivyya to materialize them into hand block printed silks for the collection.
We also sent the designs to Kashmir to make them into matching beautiful cashmere shawls. They intricately wove the pieces following the same vivid stripes of the garments.
We love how the stripes of the collection turned out and we hope to do more in the future.
